Premier League round-up: The star men from Wednesday’s action revealed

After another eventful night of Premier League action, we round up the WhoScored Man of the Match awards from six matches up and down the country.

Burnley 1-3 Liverpool - Virgil van Dijk - 8.76 rating

Virgil van Dijk has picked up successive WhoScored Man of the Match awards after inspiring Liverpool’s comeback against Burnley. Van Dijk provided the assist for Liverpool’s second goal to put Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead for the first time in the match. Van Dijk had the most touches of the ball (118), won the most aerial duels (12) and even had three shots on goal. Not only that, but the 27-year-old made 10 clearances to get Liverpool over the line.

Fulham 1-1 Leicester - James Maddison - 8.46 rating

James Maddison rescued a point for Leicester against Fulham, in what provided Claudio Ranieri’s first opportunity to face the Foxes since being sacked by the club in February 2017. Maddison hit the target with two of his three efforts on goal and also registered five key passes. The 22-year-old also made two tackles, won one dribble and drew two fouls.

Wolves 2-1 Chelsea - Ruben Loftus-Cheek - 8.55 rating

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will hope to have done enough on his first Premier League start of the season to force his way into Maurizio Sarri’s first-team plans for the rest of the season. Loftus-Cheek netted his second goal in as many games, albeit with the help of a huge deflection. Despite the defeat, Loftus-Cheek excelled, winning five aerial duels and completing three dribbles. The 22-year-old has been asked by his manager to improve defensively and he weighed in with five tackles and interceptions combined against Wolves.

Everton 1-1 Newcastle - Fabian Schar - 8.37 rating

Newcastle have only lost one of their last six Premier League matches after picking up an important point away to Everton. The Magpies took the lead but had Fabian Schar, among others, to thank for coming away from Goodison Park with something to show for their efforts. Schar won six aerial duels, completed 10 tackles and interceptions combined and made 12 clearances.

Manchester United 2-2 Arsenal - Ander Herrera - 7.99 rating

Jose Mourinho called for his Manchester United players to show desire and tenacity and that is exactly what he got from Ander Herrera, who has been named the WhoScored Man of the Match in each of United’s last two games. Herrera reacted quickest from Marcos Rojo’s free-kick to provide Anthony Martial with the chance to equalise against Arsenal in the first half. Herrera registered three key passes in total, while also completing 11 tackles and interceptions combined.

Tottenham 3-1 Southampton - Harry Kane  - 8.22 rating

Harry Kane netted his ninth Premier League goal and second assist of the season to help Tottenham ease past relegation strugglers Southampton at Wembley. Kane hit the target with two of his three shots on target, won two aerial duels and also made one tackle to ensure Tottenham bounced back from Sunday’s north London defeat comfortably.
