Lukaku partners Antonio in Premier League best XI dominated by West Ham

 

Romelu Lukaku enjoyed a goalscoring return to the Premier League as Chelsea secured a 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday, but it's Michail Antonio who deserves the plaudits after a perfect 10 performance in West Ham's 4-1 win over Leicester. Players from Tottenham and Liverpool also make the cut after respective wins over Wolves and Burnley. 

 

Hugo Lloris (Tottenham) - 7.86 

 

Hugo Lloris put in a solid shift between the sticks for Tottenham in their 1-0 win at Wolves, earning his second clean sheet in as many league games this season. The Spurs captain made six saves in the narrow victory at Molineux, that contributing towards his inclusion in the team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 7.86. 

 

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 8.92 

 

The first of two Liverpool players to feature in the best XI, Trent Alexander-Arnold notched his first Premier League assist of the season in their 2-0 win over Burnley. Alexander-Arnold turned provider for Sadio Mane midway through the second half, that coming from one of seven key passes, more than any other player in gameweek two, as he features with a WhoScored rating of 8.92. 

 

Shane Duffy (Brighton) - 8.42 

 

Making the team of the week for the second week running, Shane Duffy is enjoying a renaissance to his Brighton career having spent last season out on loan with Celtic. Duffy bagged his first goal of the season in the Seagulls' 2-0 win over Watford, powering a header past Daniel Bachmann to set Brighton on their way to victory. The centre-back found a teammate well as he ended the game with a 93.7% pass success rate, while additional returns of six aerial duels won and four clearances saw the 29-year-old yield a WhoScored rating of 8.42. 

 

Ruben Dias (Manchester City) - 8.23 

 

Ruben Dias registered his first Premier League assist of his career in Manchester City's resounding 5-0 win over Norwich on Saturday afternoon, providing for Riyad Mahrez late on to wrap up the comfortable home victory. In addition, Dias made three tackles and won two aerial duels, and found a teammate with 95.6% of his 114 passes, to partner Duffy in defence with a WhoScored rating of 8.23.  

 

Kostas Tsimikas (Liverpool) - 8.21 

 

Rounding off the backline is the second Liverpool player to feature in the team of the week. After a nervy outing against Norwich, Kostas Tsimikas looked far more composed in the win over Burnley, with one of his four key passes resulting in the assist for Diogo Jota's opener at Anfield. The Greek left-back defended well as he made three tackles and one interception to help land a WhoScored rating of 8.21. 

 

Reece James (Chelsea) - 8.97 

 

The first Chelsea player to feature after their 2-0 win at Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, Reece James was superb down the Blues right flank. James provided the assist for Romelu Lukaku's opening goal at the Emirates before getting on the scoresheet himself 10 minutes before the break, those coming from respective returns of four key passes and four shots. The 21-year-old worked hard off the ball too as he made three tackles, one interception and one clearance to feature with a WhoScored rating of 8.97.

Declan Rice (West Ham) - 8.55 

 

West Ham are the dominant side in the Premier League team of the week after their 4-1 win over Leicester on Monday night, with Declan Rice the first of three Hammers representatives to make the cut. Rice provided the assist for Michail Antonio's first goal at the London Stadium, that coming from one of two key passes. The England international was difficult to get past in east London as he made four tackles, three interceptions and two clearances and is good value for his inclusion with a WhoScored rating of 8.55. 

 

Pablo Fornals (West Ham) - 8.30 

 

Joining Rice in the middle of the park is West Ham teammate Pablo Fornals. The Spaniard set West Ham on their path to victory against Leicester with his first goal of the season, hitting the back of the net with his only shot of the game. Fornals was unfortunate not to register an assist in the 4-1 win over Leicester, as he created three goalscoring chances, with a WhoScored rating of 8.30 enough to secure a spot in the XI. 

 

Adama Traore (Wolves) - 8.31 

 

Had his teammates sported their shooting boots, then Adama Traore would have come away from Wolves' 1-0 defeat to Tottenham with at least an assist to his name having made four key passes in the home loss. The wing-wizard managed four shots in Sunday's clash and completed as many dribbles as Spurs managed as a team (9) to help land a WhoScored rating of 8.31. 

 

Michail Antonio (West Ham) - 10.0 

 

The WhoScored Premier League player of the week with a perfect 10, Michail Antonio wrote his name into the history books on Monday night as he became West Ham's record Premier League goalscorer. Antonio ended the 4-1 win over Leicester with a brace to his name, finding a way past Kasper Schmeichel with two of seven shots, after providing the assist for Said Benrahma's goal shortly after the restart. Four aerial duels won, three dribbles and two tackles capped a memorable evening for the 31-year-old. 

 

Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea) - 8.21 

 

Joining Antonio on the frontline is Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian enjoyed a superb second debut for the Blues, getting his campaign up and running with just 10 minutes on the clock in their 2-0 win at Arsenal. Lukaku was certainly in a confident mood in north London as he managed more shots (8) than any other player in gameweek two of the season and it was enough to make the team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 8.21.
