Russian 2018 World Cup star on the rise on Football INDEX

1. FEDOR SMOLOV (FC KRASNODAR)

Russia are not expected to go far in their home World Cup this summer but the hopes of a nation are firmly on the shoulders of FC Krasnodar forward Fedor Smolov.

The 28-year-old has already been heavily linked with a Premier League move this season and will know this next month’s major tournament could be his ticket to bigger and better things.

With Zenit striker Aleksandr Kokorin ruled out of the World Cup, there will be an even bigger onus on Smolov to perform and the Krasnodar striker is certainly coming into the tournament in fine form.

Smolov has scored or assisted in each of his last five appearances for Krasnodar, playing a direct hand in six goals in the process (two goals, four assists). He finished the campaign as the fourth highest WhoScored rated player in the Russian Premier League (7.35 rating).

With this in mind, his Football INDEX share price has soared 42.23% in the last 24 hours of trading. His share price is still only £0.73 and he should be considered for your portfolios.

Russia should at least be able to get out of their group and any good performances will put him on the radar of a club in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

2. ARON GUNNARSSON (CARDIFF)

The 29-year-old has been a regular fixture for Cardiff over the last four seasons and this summer will have the chance to turn out at his second consecutive major tournament.

A four-month injury lay-off midway through this season limited Gunnarsson to just 20 appearances in Cardiff’s promotion-winning campaign, but he will captain Iceland at the 2018 World Cup.

Gunnarsson’s Football INDEX share price has increased 40.61% in the last 24 hours but he should not come into consideration for your portfolios.

3. DALER KUZYAEV (ZENIT)

Named in Russia’s squad for the 2018 World Cup, Daler Kuzyaev will have the chance to continue what has been an impressive season for the versatile Zenit midfielder.

The 25-year-old made 26 appearances in Zenit’s miserable campaign, playing in almost every position across the park.

Despite his versatility, Kuzyaev still managed to weigh in with six goals and two assists in the league.

His Football INDEX share price has increased 37.91% in the last 24 hours and he is currently trading at £0.30 a share. At such a low buy price, he should be considered for your portfolios, although it would be a gamble as to whether he will perform well at the World Cup this summer.

4. ALBERT GUDMUNDSSON (PSV)

Continuing with the theme of the 2018 World Cup, 20-year-old PSV attacker Albert Gudmundsson could prove a real gem for Iceland this summer.

Gudmundsson only made one league start for PSV this season, making a further eight appearances from the bench.

However, the youngster scored nine times in 15 appearances for Jong PSV in the Jupiler League and Iceland head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson has taken a punt on the novice

Gudmundsson only has four caps to his name since making his international debut for Iceland in January 2017 but netted a hat-trick against Indonesia at the start of the year.

With that in mind, he could prove a gamble worth taking for your Football INDEX portfolios. His share price has increased 24.19% in the last 24 hours but he is still only £0.39 a future.

5. LEONARDO BONUCCI (AC MILAN)

Rounding off the five biggest market movers over the last 24 hours is AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci.

The Italy international won’t be at the 2018 World Cup this summer, but his Football INDEX share price has increased 19.64% nonetheless.

Bonucci has emerged as a shock target for Manchester United in the last 24 hours, according to reports from Italy, but it’s unlikely anything will come from that.

The 31-year-old only joined Milan last summer and United are unlikely to firm up their interest as they are confident of signing Toby Alderweireld from rivals Tottenham.
