La Liga round-up: Sevilla dominate best XI after thrashing Levante

What a difference a week makes. Earlier this month, Sevilla lost 2-0 to Getafe following the international, but followed that defeat up with resounding wins over Standard Liege and Levante in the Europa League and La Liga, respectively. The trounced the latter 6-2 on Sunday and have no fewer than four players in the best XI of the week in Spain’s top tier. 

Wissam Ben Yedder was the star man in the victory in Valencia as he followed up his midweek brace with a hat-trick and one assist as the Frenchman put the Levante defence to the sword. In a stunning hour showing, Ben Yedder hit the back of the net from three of five shots, while his assist was from one of two key passes. Two additional dribbles and one tackle saw the forward come away from the outing with a perfect 10 WhoScored rating. 

Hot on his heels was teammate Pablo Sarabia, who returned a hat-trick of assists and one goal to gain a WhoScored rating of 9.90. The Spaniard scored with his only shot, while three assists came from six key passes in a dominating performance from Sarabia. He and Ben Yedder showed a great understanding in the victory, with two of Sarabia’s three assists coming for the striker to score, while Ben Yedder’s sole assist was for his 26-year-old Sevilla partner in crime. 

However, it wasn’t as dominating a Sevilla performance as the scoreline suggests. Completing a Sevilla clean sweep is goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik. The Czech goalkeeper was routinely called upon in an entertaining encounter in Valencia as he made nine saves, the joint-most in a La Liga match this season, including a crucial penalty stop midway through the first half that would’ve drawn Levante level as Vaclik landed a WhoScored rating of 9.11. Andre Silva is an honourable mention here after he gained a WhoScored rating of 9.08 having netted once, made two tackles, two successful dribbles and one key pass in Sevilla’s win. 

Remaining in Valencia, it was Levante number one Oier Olazabal who gained the lowest WhoScored rating of the week with a 4.31. The Spaniard conceded six of Sevilla’s nine shots on target and was at fault for Ben Yedder’s hat-trick goal on the stroke of half time.
