Player Ratings: Van Dijk and Salah goals see Liverpool open 16-point gap

Liverpool pulled a massive 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League table as goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah ensured the Reds secured all the spoils at Manchester United's expense on Sunday evening...

Liverpool - 7.20

Alisson - 7.78: Provided the assist for Mohamed Salah's late strike and dealt with any danger comfortably, making four saves.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7.54: Registered his ninth league assist of the season for Virgil van Dijk in the first half, that coming from one of two key passes across the 90 minutes.

Joe Gomez - 7.34: A fine performance from the youngster, who looks to be getting back to his best following injury. Made one tackle and three interceptions.

Virgil van Dijk - 8.53: Put Liverpool ahead in the first half with his fourth league goal of the season. Imperious at the back, the Dutchman won three aerial duels and made eight clearances to return the man of the match award.

Andrew Robertson - 6.66: Not his finest display in a Liverpool shirt, but Andrew Robertson did what was required over the 90 minutes.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 7.33: Made the joint-most tackles (5) of all players in the match as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gave a timely reminder of his quality in the wake of Fabinho's return to the squad.

Jordan Henderson - 7.70: Similarly, Jordan Henderson made five tackles in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Manchester United as the Reds captain dominated the midfield.

Georgino Wijnaldum - 7.28: Arguably Liverpool's unsung hero, Georgino Wijnaldum was solid once more in midfield as he made two tackles, completed three dribbles and created one goalscoring opportunity.

Mohamed Salah - 7.81: Netted Liverpool's second late on, his 10th home league goal of the season, and worked hard off the ball, making two tackles.

Roberto Firmino - 7.62: May not have got in on the goalscoring act, but his fearless approach with the ball left the Manchester United defence on the back foot as Roberto Firmino completed more dribbles (6) than any other player, and just three fewer than Manchester United as a team.

Sadio Mane - 6.51: Liverpool's lowest rated starter, Sadio Mane endured a sub-standard display and was dispossessed three times. A day to forget for the Senegal star.

Subs: Adam Lallana - 6.36, Fabinho - 6.12, Divock Origi - 6.27

Manchester United - 6.37

David De Gea - 6.39: Booked in the first half for dissent, it could have been a very different for Manchester United had David De Gea not made three saves.

Victor Lindelof - 6.33: Won only two aerial duels over the 90 minutes and mustered just a 79% pass success rate. Not a performance he'll want to remember.

Harry Maguire - 6.63: The most expensive defender in world football didn't live up to his price tag as Manchester United's new captain struggled at the heart of a three-man backline.

Luke Shaw - 6.87: Drafted into the side to play on the left of a three-man defence, Luke Shaw was Manchester United's highest rated defender, which is an indication of United's afternoon. One tackle and two interceptions saw him earn a WhoScored rating of 6.87.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 6.98: Hardly a vintage display from the right-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka made just one tackle, though his four interceptions was the joint-most.

Fred - 7.42: Without doubt Manchester United's best player, Fred, like Wan-Bissaka, made four interceptions and three tackles as he continues to grow into his role at the club.

Nemanja Matic - 6.21: As an elder statesman in this Manchester United side, Nemanja Matic looked anything but at Anfield. Returned a 60% tackle success rate as the game often drifted him by.

Brandon Williams - 6.20: Required to play further forward to help contain Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, young Brandon Williams failed to leave a lasting impact in the final third, failing to create a goalscoring chance or complete a dribble.

Andreas Pereira - 6.24: Deployed behind the front two, Pereira struggled to get the better of Jordan Henderson as he mustered just two shots and made one key pass before he came off with 15 minutes to play.

Daniel James - 5.86: The worst rated player on the pitch, Daniel James failed to maximise his searing pace as he didn't attempt a dribble, let alone complete one. The Welshman also failed to create a goalscoring chance or have a shot in an anonymous performance at Anfield.

Anthony Martial - 6.12: Struggled without Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood with only one of three shots hitting the target.

Subs: Juan Mata - 6.17, Mason Greenwood - 5.81, Diego Dalot - 5.94
