De Bruyne and Eriksen lead star-studded Premier League April best XI

 

League leaders Manchester City are the dominant side in the Premier League team of the month for April, while Tottenham, Leeds, Chelsea, Newcastle and Brentford are also represented as we run through the best XI of those to make three or more appearances. 

 

Hugo Lloris (Tottenham) - 7.00 

 

Hugo Lloris is the first of two Tottenham players to make the April team of the month having earned a WhoScored rating of 7.00. No goalkeeper conceded fewer goals than Lloris (2) last month, while an average of three saves per game was also commendable for the Spurs captain. 

 

Joao Cancelo (Manchester City) - 7.35

 

Manchester City are the dominant side in the Premier League team of the month with Joao Cancelo the first of three representatives for the league leaders. Whether starting at right or left-back, Cancelo got forward well as he made seven key passes and completed five dribbles to feature with a WhoScored rating of 7.35. 

 

Diego Llorente (Leeds) - 7.67 

 

Leeds may have ended the month on a sour note, losing 4-0 to Manchester City, but in the three games Diego Llorente started, the Whites shipped just one league goal, that coming in a 1-1 draw with Southampton. The Spaniard was solid at the back, as noted by a fine WhoScored rating of 7.67. 

 

Liam Cooper (Leeds) - 7.74 

 

It's an all-Leeds centre-back partnership with Liam Cooper joining Llorente at the back. 6.3 clearances per game was the third best in the Premier League last month, while 7.3 aerial duels won per game ranked first to help Cooper nail down a spot in the team with a WhoScored rating of 7.74. 

 

Marcos Alonso (Chelsea) - 7.47 

 

Of the seven league goals Marcos Alonso has been directly involved in this season, three came in April as the Spaniard netted against Southampton and Manchester United, and provided the assist for Christian Pulisic's winner against West Ham. Alonso's two goals came from 15 shots and assist from 12 key passes, the latter the third best return, to round off the defence with a WhoScored rating of 7.47. 

 

De Bruyne and Eriksen lead star-studded Premier League April best XI

 

Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) - 7.91 

 

With a rating of 7.91, Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne is the Premier League player of the month for April. De Bruyne directly contributed to a Premier League goal in every outing last month, ending April with two goals and three assists. The Belgian created more goalscoring opportunities (15) than any other player to contribute towards his fine rating. 

 

Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle) - 7.77 

 

Proving to be a superb addition to the Newcastle squad, Bruno Guimaraes made more tackles (22) than any other Premier League player in April. Three league goals was the fourth best in the division last month and he ranked second for dribbles (16) to help land a WhoScored rating of 7.77. 

 

Christian Eriksen (Brentford) - 7.89 

 

11 key passes was the fifth best return in the Premier League in April with Christian Eriksen completing the midfield having garnered a WhoScored rating of 7.89. One goal and one assist contributed towards the Dane's selection alongside De Bruyne and Guimaraes in the middle of the park.

 

Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) - 7.84 

 

The third and final Manchester City player in the XI, Gabriel Jesus scored more goals (6) than any other Premier League player in April, those six goals coming from 16 shots, that the third best return. An additional assist contributed towards the Brazilian's inclusion with a WhoScored rating of 7.84. 

 

Ivan Toney (Brentford) - 7.62 

 

Ivan Toney had a direct hand in three goals in April, scoring twice, as he spearheads the charge in the Premier League team of the month. The Brenford was again impressive in the air as he won the third most aerial duels (19) of strikers to make the cut with a WhoScored rating of 7.62. 

 

Son Heung-Min (Tottenham) - 7.88 

 

The second Spurs player in the side completes the XI. Only Gabriel Jesus (7) had a direct hand in more league goals than Son Heung-Min (5) last month as the Tottenham star forced his way back into the Golden Boot race, returning a WhoScored rating of 7.88 in the process.
