Aaron Ramsey has been in fine form for Arsenal this season, with his performances flying a little under the radar. The 27-year-old impressed in Sunday’s 4-1 win over West Ham as Arsene Wenger’s farewell tour kicked off with a bang. Ramsey netted the Gunners’ decisive second goal in the victory before turning provider for Alexandre Lacazette late on.
Ramsey’s assist for the French striker was from one of three key passes, while the midfielder brought the ball forward from deep with aplomb, completing four successful dribbles. He also carried out his requisite defensive duties, making two interceptions, to help return a WhoScored.com rating of 8.92.
Alexandre Lacazette – 8.99
With a late brace in Arsenal’s 4-1 win over West Ham, Alexandre Lacazette podiums in the best rated performances in the Premier League this weekend. While he was pipped to top spot, the Frenchman was a key man in Arsenal’s victory, with his two goals coming from just three shots against the Hammers.
The 26-year-old also chipped in with one key pass and two successful dribbles, as he attacked the West Ham backline well, and linked up commendably with his teammates as he returned an 80% pass success rate. It was a solid showing from Lacazette, whose WhoScored.com rating of 8.99 saw him earn the man of the match award.
Bernardo Silva – 9.30
Manchester City started their title celebrations on a high note as they romped to a 5-0 win over relegated threatened Swansea City on Sunday. The champions were in electric from as they grounded the Swans at the Etihad Stadium, with Bernardo Silva the star man in the victory. The Portugal international netted in the second half to help cap off a notable performance.
Silva made more key passes (5) than any other player over the weekend and made an additional one tackle, one interception and four successful dribbles. It was another excellent showing from the 23-year-old, who continues to go from strength to strength after a stuttering start to life in Manchester, with his WhoScored.com rating (9.30) enough to earn the man of the match accolade.
Worst
Alfie Mawson – 5.50
Swansea fans, look away now. Alfie Mawson churned out the third lowest rated performance with the Swans solely making up this unwanted podium. The highly rated centre-back gained a WhoScored.com rating of just 5.50 at the Etihad Stadium as the Swans were thumped 5-0 on Sunday.
Mawson won just the one aerial duel over the 90 minutes and failed to make a tackle or interception in the loss. It was an afternoon to forget for the 24-year-old, who is certainly capable of better and he’ll hope to put things right when Swansea welcome Chelsea to the Liberty Stadium next week.
Tom Carroll – 5.43
Edging Mawson into second spot of the worst rated performers of the week is Tom Carroll, who struggled against Manchester City on Sunday. For a player renowned for his passing quality, Carroll returned a pass success rate of just 61.1% from his 18 attempted passes.
Furthermore, Carroll failed to make a tackle or clearance, and just the one interception. What’s more, the 25-year-old was dispossessed once over the 90 minutes and made five unsuccessful touches that resulted in Manchester City winning possession. Against the champions, that was the last thing Swansea will have wanted and a disappointing showing saw Carroll gain a WhoScored.com rating of just 5.43.
Federico Fernandez – 4.96
Rounding off the three worst rated Premier League performances of the weekend is centre-back Federico Fernandez, who gained a WhoScored.com rating of just 4.96. The Argentine wasn’t at his best it must be said at the Etihad Stadium as he committed two fouls during his time on the pitch.
One of those was on Raheem Sterling that resulted in a City penalty and his foul saw Fernandez forced off through injury in the 66th minute. Over the course of the game, the 29-year-old failed to make an interception and made one unsuccessful touch that saw City gain possession. With just seven attempted passes, it was an afternoon to forget for the experienced defender.
