WhoScored's Premier League Team of the Season So Far: Mohamed Salah, Cole Palmer, Alexander Isak

As we pass the halfway stage of the Premier League season, we’re taking a look at our statistically calculated Team of the Season So Far.

To be considered for selection, players must have made at least 15 appearances.

Represented in our XI are Brentford, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Chelsea, Wolves, Bournemouth and Newcastle.

Mark Flekken (Brentford) - 7.03

At the halfway point, Brentford’s Mark Flekken is the highest rated goalkeeper in the Premier League this season, having made more saves than any other shot-stopper in the division (87).

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 7.17

Despite all of the talk surrounding his future, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to deliver on the pitch and has been a key part of Arne Slot’s table-topping side thus far. The England international has a goal and four assists to his name, while he has also racked up 44 tackles, 18 interceptions and 18 key passes.

Murillo (Nottingham Forest) - 7.03

With nine clean sheets after 20 matches the most of any side so far, Nottingham Forest boast one of the Premier League’s most impressive defences, and crucial to that collective is Brazilian centre-back Murillo. The 22-year-old has formed an insurmountable partnership with summer signing Nikola Milenkovic, and earns a place in our XI having made 28 tackles, 16 interceptions and a whopping 117 clearances - more than any other player in the division.

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) - 7.09

Partnering Murillo at the back is Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, who is, once again, the Premier League’s highest rated centre-back, and an outstanding performer for the division’s leading side. Van Dijk boasts one of the best aerial duel win rates (72.7%), while he has also managed 22 tackles, 34 interceptions and 81 clearances.

Antonee Robinson (Fulham) - 7.18

USA international Antonee Robinson takes up the left-back position, after a sensational start to the campaign saw the 27-year-old register seven assists - one more than the most he has ever managed in a league campaign - and more than any other defender in the Premier League. Robinson, who sat down for an exclusive interview with WhoScored back in November, has also made more interceptions than any other player in the division (37).

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) - 7.96

With a WhoScored rating of 7.96, Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is without question the Premier League’s outstanding player so far. The Egyptian has registered a mind-boggling 31 goal involvements (18 goals, 13 assists) in just 19 matches, at least 12 more than any other player, and at a rate which would see him obliterate the competition’s single-season records.

Cole Palmer (Chelsea) - 7.57

The player closest to Salah for goals and assists is Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who has 19 to his name thus far (13 goals, 6 assists), in what has been another fine individual campaign for the 22-year-old. Palmer has also made at least 10 more key passes than any other player in the division (57), as well as 26 successful dribbles and 16 big chances.

Matheus Cunha (Wolves) - 7.45

One of the surprise stars of the season has been Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha, who, despite his side’s below-par performances for much of the campaign, has netted 10 goals and provided four assists so far. The Brazilian is now just two goals away from equaling his tally of league goals from last season (12), and looks well-placed to do that under new boss Vitor Pereira, who has overseen an upturn in results.

Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth) - 7.21

Another surprise package this season has been Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth side who, at the time of writing, sit in seventh-place and without a defeat in their last eight league matches. Crucial to what the Cherries have achieved so far is winger Antoine Semenyo, who is on course to enjoy his best individual campaign in the Premier League, with five goals and two assists to his name so far. The Ghanaian attacker also ranks third across the entire division for successful dribbles, with 42.

Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) - 7.48

After an impressive nine goals and six assists in the Premier League last term, Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo has well and truly stepped up to the plate in the absence of Ivan Toney, netting 13 goals inside the first 20 matches of the campaign. Mbeumo has also registered three assists and boasts the best shot conversion rate (37.1%) of any player to have attempted 20 or more shots.

Alexander Isak (Newcastle) - 7.40

Rounding off our Premier League Team of the Season So Far is Newcastle hitman Alexander Isak, who may have taken some time to get up and running this season, but is now in better scoring form than ever before. Isak scored just once in his first six league appearances of the campaign, but has now netted in each of his last seven - a total of nine goals across those games thanks to a hat-trick at Ipswich.
