WhoScored's League A Team of the Week: Wirtz leads Germany quintet after dominant display
Germany battered Bosnia and Herzegovina 7-0 on Saturday night and are the dominant side in the UEFA Nations League Team of the Week. Israel, Netherlands and Portugal are also represented in the XI.
Daniel Peretz stepped up well for Israel between the sticks as they held France to a 0-0 draw at the Stade de France last week. Peretz made eight saves and two high ball claims to return a WhoScored rating of 8.62.
Denzel Dumfries (Netherlands) – 9.69
The first of two Netherlands players in the side, Denzel Dumfries was directly involved in two of the Oranje’s four goals in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Hungary. The 28-year-old scored with one of two shots and provided one assist from three key passes. Three tackles, three clearances and two interceptions saw Dumfries land a WhoScored rating of 9.69.
Antonio Rudiger (Germany) – 8.42
Germany dominate this XI after their resounding 7-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Antonio Rudiger the first of five representatives from Die Mannschaft. The 31-year-old provided an assist in the resounding home triumph, while two tackles, four accurate long balls and a pass success rate of 94.6% from 93 passes helped Rudiger to a WhoScored rating of 8.42.
Virgil van Dijk (Netherlands) – 7.68
Partnering Rudiger at the heart of the defence is Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk, who earned a WhoScored rating of 7.68 in the 4-0 win over Hungary. The towering Dutchman won five aerial duels and found a teammate with 95.2% of his 125 attempted passes to make the XI.
Nuno Mendes provided the assist for Rafael Leao’s opening goal in Portugal’s 5-1 win over Poland on Friday night, that coming from one of two key passes. The 22-year-old also made one interception and one clearance on his way to a WhoScored rating of 7.34.
Florian Wirtz (Germany) – 10.0
With a perfect WhoScored 10 rating, Florian Wirtz is the Player of the Week. Wirtz was directly involved in three of Germany’s seven goals on Saturday night, netting with two of four shots and providing one assist with his only key pass. The 21-year-old also completed two dribbles and made two tackles in a fine showing.
Remaining at the Europa-Park Stadion, Kai Havertz was also superb in Germany’s win over Bosnia and Herezegovina. The Arsenal man netted with one of six shots and provided one assist from his only key pass, while an additional tackle saw Havertz earn a WhoScored rating of 8.76.
Bruno Fernandes (Portugal) – 8.40
Linking up with Havertz in the middle of the park is Portugal star Bruno Fernandes, who netted once in their 5-1 win over Poland on Friday. Fernandes struck with one of three shots, while he was unfortunate not to add an assist having made three key passes. The 30-year-old also made three tackles to earn a WhoScored rating of 8.40.
Jamal Musiala (Germany) – 9.12
Jamal Musiala put in a display deserving of a WhoScored rating of 9.12 in Germany’s big win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, netting the opener in a 7-0 victory. The 21-year-old netted with one of three efforts, completed five dribbles, made three tackles and two key passes in another stand out showing.
Tim Kleindienst (Germany) – 9.34
The fifth and final Germany player in the side is Gladbach striker Tim Kleindienst. The 29-year-old scored his first and second international goals of his career, getting the better of Nikola Vasilj with two of three shots, and made one key pass to land a WhoScored rating of 9.34.
Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) – 8.96
Rounding of the XI is Cristiano Ronaldo, who returned a WhoScored rating of 8.96 in Portugal’s 5-1 win over Poland. Ronaldo was directly involved in three of five goals, bagging a brace with two of five shots and providing one assist from two key passes in a Player of the Match performance.
