Michael Olise is one of rising stars in the Premier League.
It hasn’t been a breakthrough season for the attacker by any measure. It was last term where, for Crystal Palace, the winger shone, with 13 goal contributions in 40 games across all competitions.
But now, nearing the end of a campaign where he has 15 goal contributions in 17 matches amid a long-term injury, clubs keen on Olise have appeared to have firmed up their interest.
Michael Olise Transfer Value - how much is he worth now?
According to FootballTransfer's Player Valuation Model, Olise has a current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €38.3m.
He almost joined Chelsea last summer, but in a surprise turn of events, opted to remain at Selhurst Park, signing a fresh deal with the insertion of a higher release clause.
What does Olise bring to the table?
Olise’s talent was clear from a young age. He spent time as a youth player at Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, before landing a spot in Reading’s scholarship programme. After promotion to the first-team, he made his name as a regular starter for the Championship club, even contributing seven goals in his final season there.
Palace activated his release clause in the summer of 2021 and he’s turned into arguably their most valuable asset since. Olise is an inverted winger who likes to turn the ball inside using his stronger left foot. Throughout the span of his career, he has predominantly operated on the right flank. He was deployed in this position within the framework of either a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 attacking setup under both Roy Hodgson and Patrick Vieira, while current boss Oliver Glasner has used him as a partnered No.10 as part of a 3-4-2-1.
Throughout their recent managers, Palace's offensive strategy has used Olise and Eberechi Eze to generate one-on-one opportunities. From this, Olise has built confidence in effectively beating his man and forging chances.
Olise's endeavours on the right flank were often complemented by the overlapping runs of full-backs Joel Ward and occasionally Nathaniel Clyne. Having a competent player directly behind Olise has provided him enough space to fire a high volume of crosses into the box. It’s the method in which most of his assists, across this season and last, have come from. Olise is ‘very strong’ in delivering balls into the box, according to WhoScored.
Other strong areas include key passes and taking set pieces. Meanwhile, the winger yields 0.42 xG per 90 minutes for Palace, a significant amount from his position, and 3.1 successful dribbles in the same time.
A sure indication of his goalscoring capabilities was highlighted in Palace’s recent rampant 4-0 win over Manchester United, where the 22-year-old scored a brace.
His first against the Red Devils showcased his ability to dribble, expertly shifting past Casemiro using both feet, before carrying the box into the box and passing the ball into the net.
His second was a breathtaking strike, with Olise quickly shuffling an awkward ball to his feet into the right position before slamming it past Andre Onana from distance.
The game was a testament to the rich talent Olise possesses and his trajectory. Should he remain in England, he is set to be among the most devastating right-wingers in the Premier League.
