Four from depleted Liverpool in Merseyside dominant team of the week
There's a Merseyside feel to the Premier League team of the week with seven of the 11 players plying their trade for Liverpool or Everton, with the defending champions dominating this XI following their 3-0 win over Leicester. There is also space for Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham stars following their respective wins over West Brom, Newcastle and Manchester City.
Hugo Lloris (Tottenham) - 8.02
Hugo Lloris was one of two goalkeepers to win a WhoScored man of the match award over the weekend as the Frenchman kept a clean sheet in Tottenham's 2-0 win over Manchester City to send Spurs top of the Premier League. The Frenchman made a total of five saves and made two high ball claims to help return a WhoScored rating of 8.02.
James Milner (Liverpool) - 8.15
The first of seven Merseyside based players, James Milner kicks off the Liverpool contingent having garnered a WhoScored rating of 8.15 in their 3-0 win over Leicester, setting a new club-record having now gone 64 home league matches unbeaten in the process. Victory on Sunday night was their 53rd in that run. Milner was key at right-back before moving into midfield 10 minutes after the break, making two tackles and one interception over the 90 minutes. The 34-year-old also provided the assist for Roberto Firmino's late goal, that coming from one of five key passes.
Kurt Zouma (Chelsea) - 7.73
The sole Chelsea representative in the Premier League team of the week is Kurt Zouma as the Frenchman continues to impress for the Blues. Zouma was essential for Frank Lampard's side as they earned a 2-0 win at Newcastle on Saturday, as the France international worked hard to help the west London side to a clean sheet at St. James' Park, making six clearances. The 26-year-old also found a teammate with 96.2% of his 106 attempted passes to make the best XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.73.
Harry Maguire (Manchester United) - 7.82
Partnering Zouma at the heart of the defence is the first of two Manchester United players to make the best XI this week. Harry Maguire played his part as United secured a 1-0 win over West Brom on Saturday night. The towering England international did all he could to maximise his height as he won four aerial duels in the narrow victory. Maguire worked hard to keep the ball as far from David De Gea's goal as possible, making four interceptions, two clearances and one tackle to return a WhoScored rating of 7.82.
Andy Robertson (Liverpool) - 8.35
The second of four Liverpool players rounds off the defence. Andy Robertson was a menace for the Leicester defence throughout the 90 minutes on Sunday and it was his cross that found Diogo Jota shortly before the break to double the Reds' advantage, that assist coming from one of three key passes. Four clearances and one tackle highlighted the solid shift the Scot put in from left-back as Robertson came away from the 3-0 win with a WhoScored rating of 8.35.
Diogo Jota (Liverpool) - 8.41
Record breaker Diogo Jota also makes the cut in the Premier League team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 8.41. The Portuguese star's first half goal saw him become the first Liverpool player in history to net in his first four top-flight matches. Jota's goal came from one of five shots in the win over Leicester as the summer arrival put in a fine attacking showing, with three key passes and three successful dribbles capping an excellent performance.
Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - 8.47
The second Manchester United player in this team, Bruno Fernandes scored the only goal of the game in their 1-0 win over West Brom, netting from the spot to score United's first Premier League goal at Old Trafford in 322 minutes of action. The Portugal international was unfortunate not to register an assist in the narrow victory having made six key passes - no player has made more in a Premier Legaue match this season - to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 8.47.
Abdoulaye Doucoure (Everton) - 8.40
Joining Fernandes in the middle of the park is the first of three Everton representatives. Abdoulaye Doucoure bagged his first Toffees goal as they secured a 3-2 win at Fulham in Sunday's early kick off. The Frenchman's goal came from his only shot at Craven Cottage, but it was Doucoure's work off the ball that caught the eye. Indeed, the 27-year-old made six interceptions and three tackles to help return a WhoScored rating of 8.40.
Lucas Digne (Everton) - 8.68
Helping himself to his third and fourth Premier League assists of the season, Lucas Digne is the second Everton player to make the team of the week. The Frenchman's brace of assists came from five key passes, so Digne was unfortunate not to have more to his name come full time over the weekend. Winning an additional five aerial duels, Digne was good value for his WhoScored rating of 8.68.
Roberto Firmino (Liverpool) - 8.81
With a WhoScored rating of 8.81, Roberto Firmino is our Premier League player of the week. The Brazilian put the icing on the cake in a 3-0 win over Leicester, scoring late on to bag his second home league goal of the season, already bettering is return from 2019/20. Firmino's goal came from six shots at Anfield and, in the absence of Mohamed Salah, took it upon himself to drive at the Leicester backline in possession as he completed four dribbles.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) - 8.75
Netting twice in the first half, Dominic Calvert-Lewin took his goal total to 10 in the Premier League, moving clear of Son Heung-Min in the race for the Golden Boot. The 23-year-old hit the back of the net with two of three shots, and exhibited a strength of 'aerial duels', winning four headed battles. It was enough to see Calvert-Lewin join Firmino on the frontline with a WhoScored rating of 8.75.
Sebastien Haller deserves an honourable mention with the West Ham star unfortunate not to make the team of the week. Haller's WhoScored rating of 8.72 was the third best in England's top tier this week, but misses out on a spot in the best XI to Firmino and Calvert-Lewin.
