WhoScored’s Champions League Team of the Week: Bellingham back to his best to shine in XI

 

The sixth round of matches in the new-look UEFA Champions League is complete, and here, we’re looking at the standout performers in our Team of the Week. 

 

Represented in our best XI are Bologna, PSG, PSV, Real Madrid, Stuttgart, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Feyenoord.

Lukasz Skorupski (Bologna) - 8.34 

 

Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski helped the Italian side to their second point in Europe this season, with his exploits against Benfica crucial to securing a clean sheet in a goalless draw. The 33-year-old made a total of five saves, preventing 1.21 goals according to Opta’s Expected Goals model. 

 

Achraf Hakimi (PSG) - 8.96 

 

PSG kept their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages alive when they cruised past Salzburg on Tuesday evening, and right-back Achraf Hakimi played a role in two of the French side’s three goals. The Morocco international provided assists for Goncalo Ramos and Desire Doue, those coming from four key passes - while he also managed two successful dribbles, two tackles, two interceptions and nine ball recoveries. 

 

Ryan Flamingo (PSV) - 7.90 

 

Despite falling to a 1-0 victory away to French side Brest on Tuesday, PSV defender Ryan Flamingo earns a place in our Team of the Week following an impressive individual showing. Flamingo won all four of the tackles he attempted, while he also made four clearances, three interceptions, six ball recoveries, and was successful in eight of his 10 duels. 

 

Marquinhos (PSG) - 7.81 

 

The second of three PSG defenders to feature in our back four is captain Marquinhos, who, in the win over Salzburg, managed two tackles, three clearances, four ball recoveries and five aerial wins. The 30-year-old also completed 123 of the 128 passes he attempted, to return a 96% pass success rate. 

 

Nuno Mendes (PSG) - 8.09 

 

Completing our back line is left-back Nuno Mendes, whose first goal of the season doubled the visitors’ lead halfway through the second half in Salzburg. Mendes, who found the net with his only attempt on goal, also managed two tackles and won all but one of the nine duels he contested. 

 

 

Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid) - 8.73 

 

Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham made it goals in four successive matches when he found the net in Los Blancos’ crucial 3-2 win over Atalanta on Tuesday evening. The England international followed up a fine individual move with a well-placed minute 15 minutes into the second half, while he also made two key passes, five successful dribbles and nine ball recoveries, to land a WhoScored rating of 8.73. 

 

Enzo Millot (Stuttgart) - 9.11 

 

Stuttgart attacking midfielder Enzo Millot has been in fine form so far this season, and added to his tally of goal involvements with a goal and an assist in Wednesday’s 5-1 thrashing of Swiss side Young Boys. The 22-year-old, who has now registered two goals and three assists in Europe this term, also managed four key passes, seven touches in the opposition box and three accurate crosses, to return a WhoScored rating of 9.11. 

 

Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich) - 9.16 

 

Another player to earn a WhoScored rating higher than 9.00 was Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, who scored and assisted as the Bundesliga leaders put five past Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night. Musiala, who has now netted four goals in his last four appearances, also managed three key passes, five successful dribbles and nine ball recoveries, for a WhoScored rating of 9.16.

Michael Olise (Bayern Munich) - 9.77 

 

Beating Musiala to be named our Champions League Player of the Week, however, is Bayern Munich team-mate Michael Olise, who was directly involved in three of his side’s five goals in Gelsenkirchen. Olise scored twice and provided one assist, that from four shots on goal and two key passes. The 23-year-old also completed six successful dribbles and made two tackles, on his way to a near-perfect WhoScored rating of 9.77. 

 

Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid) - 8.56 

 

Leading the line in our best XI is Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann, who made it seven goals in his last five matches for the Spanish side when he bagged a brace in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Slovan Bratislava. The Frenchman found the net with two of his three attempts on goal, with his efforts earning a WhoScored rating of 8.56. 

 

Igor Paixão (Feyenoord) - 8.63 

 

Rounding off our Team of the Week is Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao, who helped the Dutch side to a 4-2 victory over Sparta Prague on Wednesday, finding the net on 10 minutes to double their early lead. The Brazilian also made two key passes, three successful dribbles, four clearances and three ball recoveries, to register a WhoScored rating of 8.63.
