European Team of the Season: Striker - Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus)

Rounding off our European team of the season is Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portugal international was unable to guide the Old Lady to the Champions League, nor the Coppa Italia, but was hugely influential as Juventus secured an eighth successive Scudetto. Indeed, Ronaldo chipped in with 21 goals, the fourth highest in Italy’s top tier, and registered a further eight assists for the Serie A powerhouse.

His usual confident self, it was no surprise to see that Ronaldo mustered 177 shots this season, that more than any other striker, while 10 WhoScored man of the match awards was also the most of every player in his position. All in all, while the 34-year-old endured something of a sub-par season by his astronomical standards, this was still a campaign that Ronaldo impressed in and it’s reflected in his commendable WhoScored rating of 7.68, that enough to partner Kylian Mbappe on the frontline.

Ronaldo will now hope to head into the off-season break on a high as he aims to fire Portugal to UEFA Nations League glory, starting with their meeting with Switzerland next week, as the forward did more than enough to make this XI.
