Grealish replaced by England team-mate atop Premier League form rankings

We have a face at the top of our Premier League player form rankings and it's perhaps not the first player that would spring to mind.

Harry Kane held first place for four weeks in a row before Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish took top spot for successive weeks. While both remain in the top-10, it is actually an England team-mate that takes centre stage this week.

Before we get into the top-10, it's a good time to remind you of the qualifying rules. As always, our power rankings are based on a six-game period, weighted chronologically with the most recent outing carrying greater significance and so on.

Each player must have played in two of the last three and six of the last eight available Premier League matches for their side. Moreover, only league ratings are considered.

10) Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace) - 7.44 form rating

Wilfried Zaha is a new qualifier in our form rankings and slots straight in at No.10. Crystal Palace are all the better for Zaha's return after the forward missed two matches with COVID-19. Nevertheless, he has featured in two of Palace's last three and six of their last eight to make the rankings. Across his last six Premier League appearances, Zaha has played a direct hand in six goals (four goals, two assists).

9) Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City) - 7.46 form rating

Riyad Mahrez has dropped five places from last week after drawing a blank in the Manchester derby on Saturday. Mahrez lasted only 66 minutes against Manchester United before being replaced by Pep Guardiola. His hat-trick against Burnley three matches ago is really standing him up in the top-10.

8) Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) - 7.46 form rating

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a non-mover in the top-10, keeping his place at number eight. Everton ended their sorry run of form with a surprise 1-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend, with Calvert-Lewin winning the decisive spot-kick. The England international has four goals in his last six Premier League appearances and has only garnered a WhoScored rating less than 7.00 in one of those fixtures.

7) Bruno Fernandes (Man Utd) - 7.51 form rating

Bruno Fernandes couldn't inspire Manchester United to victory over Manchester City on Saturday and has dropped two spots in our top-10 to seventh as a result. Fernandes has still managed six goals and assists in his last six Premier League outings but has now failed to score in successive appearances.

6) James Maddison (Leicester) - 7.52 form rating

James Maddison has gatecrashed the top-10 for the first time this season and slots in at sixth following his brace at the weekend. Maddison found the back of the net twice in Leicester's 3-0 win over Brighton on Sunday to claim the Premier League player of the week award. With three goals and assists in Leicester's last two league games, Maddison appears to be rounding into form after finally overcoming his injury woes.

5) Mason Mount (Chelsea) - 7.57 form rating

Mason Mount improves one place in the XI despite Chelsea's defeat to Everton on Saturday, though mainly as the sixth game in his previous sequence was an 18-minute substitute appearance against Manchester United. With that 6.57 rating replaced by a 7.03 against Everton at the weekend, Mount's form rating has increased. Across his last six matches, Mount has two WhoScored Man of the Match awards and two assists to his name.

4) Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) - 7.59 form rating

Jack Grealish has not only lost top spot in our player form guide, but the Aston Villa captain is now down to fourth. Grealish unselfishly passed up a penalty against Wolves at the weekend, and while Villa still scored it, it proved costly for Grealish's placement in our rankings. Nevertheless, the England international has still played a direct hand in four goals in his last six. Moreover in that time, Grealish averages 3.5 shots pg, 2.5 key passes pg, 2.8 dribbles pg and 5.2 fouls won pg.

3) Harry Kane (Tottenham) - 7.63 form rating

Harry Kane was in danger of dropping out of the top-10 for the first time this season after falling to seventh in our form ratings last time around, but the Tottenham striker is back up to third this week. Kane has either scored or assisted in five of Tottenham's last six matches and played a direct hand in six goals in that time to help Tottenham to top of the table ahead of this week's mouthwatering encounter with Liverpool.

2) Kevin De Bruyne (Man City) - 7.68 form rating

Kevin De Bruyne had three shots and created as many goalscoring chances in Saturday's Manchester derby but it was enough to break down Manchester United. Despite the fact De Bruyne's form rating from last week has actually gone down, he has still moved up one spot into second with Jack Grealish dropping from first to fourth. De Bruyne has played a direct hand in six goals in his last six league appearances for Pep Guardiolas side (one goal, five assists).

1) James Ward-Prowse (Southampton) - 7.77 form rating

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse is now the most in-form player in the Premier League, becoming the third player to reach top spot this season after Harry Kane and Jack Grealish. Ward-Prowse's form rating has actually dipped 0.07 from last week but benefits from others being worse off to move from second to first in the top-10. Ward-Prowse has played a direct hand in six goals in his last six appearances for Southampton to help inspire the club to fourth in the table.
