Below are FPL Heisenberg's UltimateFan picks and the reasoning behind his selections.
Anthony Gordon (Fixture: Bournemouth, Home)
Anthony Gordon has been electric at St James’ Park this season and with injuries to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson – the former is closer to a return than the latter – he should be set to lead the line for Newcastle at home to Bournemouth. Playing centrally should give him a greater chance to score and with the two number 9’s unlikely to play maybe he’s on penalties – but this remains to be seen.
As mentioned, Gordon has been excellent at home this season with 11 attacking returns (6 goals and 5 assists) in 12 home starts.
Facing a Bournemouth side who are struggling in recent weeks, I expect a home win for the Magpies and plenty of goals to boot. Should that happen, it’ll likely be a big UltimateFan fantasy haul for Anthony Gordon.
Kevin De Bruyne (Fixture: Chelsea, Home)
This weekend I’m expecting another big win for Manchester City when the inconsistent Chelsea visit the Etihad. De Bruyne is central to their attacking play so he could be heavily involved in the attacking returns against his former team.
Chelsea are conceding plenty of goals this season and City will be hoping to continue to dominate their opponents – especially with almost a fully fit squad to inflict maximum damage.
If you already have De Bruyne, bringing in other City assets like Phil Foden, Erling Haaland or Nathan Ake is also a solid move. They are the best team in the league and as we all know, this is the time of the season when they really kick into gear.
Ollie Watkins (Fixture: Fulham, Away)
Ollie Watkins has bagged 11 goals and amassed 10 assists in the Premier League this season making him a great pick this weekend away to Fulham. A decent fixture for the Englishman, but not the easiest out there. However, given how consistent he’s been all season I wouldn’t bet against him returning this weekend.
Watkins is the main man for Villa, both in terms of goal contributions and minutes on the pitch. He’s played at least 89 minutes in each of the last 20 Premier League games for Aston Villa, which is great for the potential of late goals, something that has happened a lot this season.
I’m predicting a comfortable win for Aston Villa, scoring at least two goals. I’d be amazed if Watkins blanks in this one.
Darwin Nunez (Fixture: Brentford, Away)
The Uruguayan has been producing attacking returns this season – despite being wasteful in front of goal. This season he has 17 attacking returns in the Premier League (8 goals and 9 assists). He wasn’t a regular starter at the beginning of the season, but now he’s a more consistent starter for the Reds. I expect Darwin Nunez (AKA Captain Chaos) to be involved when Liverpool score goals against Brentford this weekend.
Liverpool as a team have one of the best goalscoring records in the league, scoring 55 times which is second only to Man City (56). Furthermore, despite the negativity surrounding Nunez missing big chances, his underlying stats are strong both creatively and for goalscoring. Liverpool attack well as a team and Darwin is heavily involved in the chances, so he should prove a decent pick for your UltimateFan side.
