Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool Ratings: Liverpool secure fifth successive league win

Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino either side of half time saw Tottenham lose back-to-back Premier League games for the first time since May 2016 as Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners at Wembley.

TOTTENHAM - 6.48

Michel Vorm - 7.85 (Man of the Match) - Ensured Spurs remained in with a chance of claiming a positive result as he made eight saves, including fine stops to deny Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita in the second half. Played out from the back well, too, returning a 78.6% pass success rate.

Kieran Trippier - 5.77 - The worst-rated performer on the pitch, was almost caught out in the first half that eventually culminated in a Liverpool free-kick in a dangerous position. Failed to make a tackle, interception or clearance and struggled when he got forward too, with none of five crosses finding a teammate.

Toby Alderweireld - 6.75 - Made a fine last ditch challenge to keep the scores level midway through the first half, yet not at his best today. Was successful with two of three attempted tackles and made only one interception.

Jan Vertonghen - 6.86 - Despite being on the losing side, he was another consistent performer in defence for Spurs. Showcased an excellent piece of defending to lose Roberto Firmino in the first half.

Danny Rose - 5.93 - Was pegged back by Mohamed Salah more often than not and even when at the back, was often beaten by the Egyptian. Not a display that suggests he warrants to permanently displace Ben Davies as first choice left-back.

Harry Winks - 6.07 - Made his first Premier League start since last December and it showed. The youngster looked off the pace in the middle of the park in a sub-par showing as he made just one tackle and returned a 79.6% pass success rate.

Eric Dier - 5.81 - Was let off the hook in the first half when his pass to the defence ran through to Mohamed Salah, which was well saved by Michel Vorm. Usually struggles against Liverpool and this was one of his worst performances in a Spurs shirt in a long time.

Mousa Dembele - 5.91 - Burst forward well when he won possession, completing two dribbles, but looked a little out of his depth against Liverpool all-action midfield. Hauled off after an hour in a performance he’ll want to quickly forget.

Christian Eriksen - 6.93 - Provided the assist for Erik Lamela’s late goal, that coming from one of three key passes over the 90 minutes, but this was another performance below the Dane’s standards.

Lucas Moura - 6.80 - Came desperately close to drawing Tottenham level early in the second half after cutting in from the left, but struck the outside of the near post. Worked hard off the ball as he made three tackles and completed one dribble.

Harry Kane - 6.31 - An anonymous performance from the Tottenham striker. Mustered just two shots, one of which was off target. Had fewer touches (22) than any other starter.

Subs

Erik Lamela - 7.38 - Gave Spurs hope of a late comeback with a lovely hit in injury time. Won two aerial duels to go with his goal, his third in his last three home league appearances. Put in a performance that suggested he warranted to start.

Son Heung-Min - 6.34 - Making his first appearance following his return from the Asian Games and could’ve levelled matters for Spurs in the dying embers only to be robbed of possession when he was about to pull the trigger.

Victor Wanyama - 6.06 - Didn’t have enough time to influence the game.

LIVERPOOL - 6.78

Alisson - 6.47 - Had little to do, but saved only two of the three shots on target he faced, including a late Erik Lamela strike to set up a tense finish. Was brave to claim a low Kieran Trippier cross that was aimed at Harry Kane.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7.05 - Chipped in with two tackles as he remained defensively diligent, while two interceptions helped Liverpool quickly transition from defence to attack.

Joe Gomez - 7.01 - Made three tackles, including a stunning second half challenge to deny Lucas Moura, and won four aerial duels. The youngster continues to shine alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Liverpool backline.

Virgil van Dijk - 6.49 - Made a couple of crucial clearances to deny Tottenham from wide, making five in total, and made one tackle, one interception and won two aerial duels.

Andrew Robertson - 6.85 - A dependable performance from the left-back, who pressed forward well to make one key pass and complete one dribble. Also made four tackles to keep the Spurs attack at bay.

James Milner - 7.21 - Tenacious in midfield, making five tackles, and could’ve had an early assist, only for Sadio Mane’s goals to be disallowed for offside. Chipped in with three key passes as he continues his fine start to the season.

Georginio Wijnaldum - 7.41 - Headed Liverpool ahead five minutes before the interval, his first away Premier League goal of his career, and kept things ticking over for the Reds in the middle of the park.

Naby Keita - 6.75 - Not a stand out display, but could have easily netted his first Premier League goal of his short career in the second half. Yet to hit top gear following his summer arrival, yet showed glimpses of his quality before his withdrawal.

Mohamed Salah - 7.13 - Not a standout display, with his best effort of the game, a second half curling shot, turned away well by Michel Vorm. Nevertheless, pegged the Spurs defence back as he completed three dribbles.

Roberto Firmino - 7.38 - Doubled Liverpool’s advantage from close range after some poor Tottenham defending and a general nuisance in the final third. Made a tackle before being withdrawn with 20 minutes to go through injury.

Sadio Mane - 7.33 - Saw an early goal correctly chalked off for offside, yet failed to get the better of Michel Vorm with any of his five attempts, three of which were on target. Made two key passes, one of which was for a Naby Keita chance in the second half.

Subs

Jordan Henderson - 6.02 - Not a cameo performance that suggests he’ll be in the Liverpool starting XI anytime soon.

Daniel Sturridge - 5.96 - Made minimal impact following his late introduction.

Joel Matip - 5.89 - Replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold late on.
