The Champions League is back and bet365 are celebrating its return by offering new and existing customers a £50 risk-free in-play bet for this week's big match between PSG and Chelsea if you place a bet of the same value on the match before kick-off.
The promotion certainly adds extra intrigue to Tuesday night's clash, and here we give our top tips for all of the action in Europe's elite club competition this week.
PSG vs Chelsea - Match Preview
Starting with the real glamour tie of this week's fixtures, we're backing a repeat of the tense affairs played out between the two last year. Last season's French and English champions went head-to-head at the quarter-final stages and while they were unable to be separated in either leg, Laurent Blanc's men progressed by the virtue the away goal ruling.
The Blues will be out for revenge as a result, and have proven very hard to beat under the tutelage of Guus Hiddink. Over two stints at the Stamford Bridge helm the Dutchman has only overseen one defeat in 33 matches, though 6 of the 9 league matches he has taken charge of this season have ended in stalemate. Odds on another draw at 3.80 with bet365 are very tempting indeed, while 2.10 on a tie at half-time looks a sensible bet with a significant profit given PSG have been level at the break in each of their last 6 matches.
A bet of £50 on a stalemate at the interval would return a £65 profit and also open up the opportunity of a risk-free in-play bet of the same value. A look at the visitors' injury problems at the back may deter any chance of a positive result for Chelsea, and with Terry and Zouma injured, Baba Rahman is likely to come into the side for his biggest game yet for the Londoners. Up against an in-form Angel Di Maria, the young Ghanaian faces an unenviable task and a £50 in-play bet on the Argentine to score anytime at 3.75 would bring a hefty total return of £187.50.
Benfica vs Zenit - Match Preview
Given their record in the group stages one might predict that this is a tough draw against Zenit for Benfica but the recent form of both sides suggests something very different. The Russian Premier League champions are well off the pace this season, winning just 3 of their last 12 league matches to sit fourth, with Andre Villas-Boas - who returns to his homeland this week - confirming that he will leave the club at the end of the season.
By comparison Benfica suffered their first defeat in 15 Liga NOS matches at the weekend to fierce rivals Porto, picking up 40 points from a possible 42 beforehand. With home advantage the Portuguese outfit should be favourites by a distance, though odds at 2.15 on a home win don't reflect as much and should be exploited as a result.
Roma vs Real Madrid - Match Preview
Roma may have dumped Real Madrid out of the Champions League at this stage of the competition back in 2008 in the last competitive meetings between the sides but the Italians are massive underdogs in this one. Luciano Spalletti's return has inspired an upturn in results for the Giallorossi - winning 4 on the bounce - but only Malmo conceded more goals in the group stages (16).
With Real Madrid the leading scorers before the knockout phase (19 goals), things don't look great for Roma, though they do carry a real threat on the counter. Both teams scored in 5 of the hosts' 6 group games and a repeat seems likely. Throw in Real Madrid to come out on top at the final whistle to there being goals at both ends for excellent odds of 3.25 with bet365.
Gent vs Wolfsburg - Match Preview
The surprise package of the group stages having reached the tournament for the first time in their history, Gent have progressed to this point impressively, winning their last three matches in the competition. The Belgian outfit sit top of the Pro League on goal difference and will be confident of securing another upset against a Wolfsburg side in poor form.
Dieter Hecking's men have failed to cover for the summer departure of Kevin De Bruyne to sit 8th in the Bundesliga. Central to their struggles has been a dismal away record, winning just once on the road in 10 league outings, so a trip to Belgium isn't ideal. With first choice keeper Benaglio sidelined along with midfielder Josuha Guilavogui and the suspended Naldo - Wolfsburg's highest rated player from the group stages (7.53) - a double chance bet on the home team looks very safe at 1.48, though Gent to win is far more appealing at 2.80.
All good at the moment...
