Nottingham Forest back underfire Cooper with shock new deal

 

Nottingham Forest has announced underfire manager Steve Cooper has put pen to paper agreeing to stay until at least 2025.

 

Forest are currently bottom of the Premier League after a run of five straight defeats and there were suggestions Cooper may leave.

 

The newly promoted Premier League outfit signed 23 new players over the summer in one of the most remarkable transfer windows in British football history.

 

Southampton were reportedly weighing up a move for Cooper to replace their own underfire manager, Ralf Hasenhuttl, but Forest have instead him a new deal.

 

"It's good to have clarity regarding my contract situation because I've been asked a lot of questions over the last weeks and months," said Cooper, in an interview on the club website.

 

"Everyone who knows me knows how much I am loving my time here at Nottingham Forest and everyone knows how important this club is to me.

 

"My real focus at this moment in time is about winning football matches because we're on a poor run of form, let's not hide away from that.

 

"Nothing changes in terms of our work and making sure that we try and get the best out of each other every day and prepare for the next game as well as we can.

 

"I'm more than happy to give everything that I've got to succeed here and that's where my mindset is at the moment."

 

 

Forest, despite signing 21 players, have struggled this season, conceding the 2nd most goals in the league and with only two other teams scoring less.

 

Cooper took over Forest when they were in the relegation zone last season before embarking on a run of 22 wins from 38 matches and victory over Huddersfield in the play-off final to secure promotion back to the Premier League.
