Which hat-trick hero earned the highest rating in the Bundesliga this weekend?

Borussia Dortmund may have five representatives in this weekend’s Bundesliga Team of The Week, but the top honour was reserved for Mainz’s attacking midfielder Yunus Malli, whose three goals in a 3-1 win over rivals Hoffenheim earned him an unrivalled WhoScored rating of 9.74.

Martin Schmidt’s side had been languishing mid-table prior to this weekend following an indifferent start that had produced two wins and two defeats in their opening four games, but Mainz are now just a point outside of European contention after their comprehensive victory over league strugglers Hoffenheim.

Pivotal to their success was Malli, who finished the weekend’s action as the only player to net a hat-trick across Europe’s top five leagues. The 23-year-old is now just behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Thomas Muller (both 6) in the race to score most goals this season in the Bundesliga (5).

Despite going behind in this match, Mainz ran out comfortable winners thanks to a performance of class by Malli. The German forward looked most likely to score for Mainz and unsurprisingly had at least four more shots than any other player (7). Not only that, but no player completed more dribbles (3).
