Chelsea star admits to being ‘overweight’

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has revealed he was ‘overweight’ when he returned to the club from his summer holidays this season.

Costa, 27, has been one of several Chelsea players that have struggled to reproduce the same form that saw them canter to the Premier League title last season.

The Spain international already had nine goals by this stage of the campaign with Chelsea last year, but has only managed one solitary goal this time around and has attributed his slump in form to letting himself go over the summer break.

“I’m going to be very honest. Maybe a few weeks ago, five or six weeks ago, I was not on top of my game. At least physically,” Costa is quoted as saying by the Metro.

“We talk within the players and we know that, maybe at the beginning, we were not 100% as we were supposed to be when we got here. I got injured at the end of last season and then I went on holiday.

“Maybe I got out of my diet and, when I came back, I was not the way I was supposed to be. I was a little bit overweight. That affected my game. You can be selfish and blame it on the manager but I’m not going to do that.”
