Team News

Motherwell
Rangers
  • Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell named four changes to the Steelmen side that was held at home by Kilmarnock in a 1-1 draw at Fir Park, before they were battered on Boxing Day by Celtic 4-0 at Parkhead.
  • Aston Oxborough remained in goal behind Shane Blaney, Dan Casey - who was cleared to play after his suspension was overturned - and Kofi Balmer who took Liam Gordon's place in the back three. Andy Halliday made way for Tom Sparrow in midfield.
  • Marvin Kaleta continued at right wing-back, with Ewan Wilson taking Steve Seddon's spot at left wing-back. Harry Paton accompanied Lennon Miller in the middle of the park. Tawanda Maswanhise replaced Apostolos Stamatelopoulos to join Tony Watt in attack.
  • Rangers boss Philippe Clement made four changes after the Gers' sole goal success against Dundee at Ibrox, before they slipped to a 2-1 defeat to St Mirren in Paisley on Boxing Day.
  • Jack Butland returned between the sticks, as Liam Kelly dropped onto the bench.
  • Leon Balogun replaced Robin Propper to join Dujon Sterling at centre-back. James Tavernier continued at right-back with Jefte on the left flank.
  • Mohamed Diomande and Connor Barron, replacing Nico Raskin, started ahead of the defence. Vaclav Cerny and Ianis Hagi were joined by Nedim Bajrami, who took Danilo's place, in support of lone striker Hamza Igamane.

Prediction

  • Both Motherwell and Rangers are looking to get back to winning ways, after suffering Boxing Day defeats in the Scottish Premiership.
  • Defeat to Celtic was nothing new for the Motherwell, as the Well remain winless in 33 meetings against the league leaders since winning 2-1 at Parkhead back in December 2015. The Steelmen have slipped to sixth spot in the Scottish Premiership table, after victories for both Dundee United and St Mirren, so would love to bounce back with a win and aid their quest for a top half finish.
  • Rangers lost ground on bitter rivals Celtic, who they play at Ibrox in their next Scottish Premiership game, as defeat in Paisley and victory for Celtic over Motherwell means they trail the league leaders by 12 points. The slip-up to St Mirren is enough of a problem, but if the Gers can't beat Motherwell in this match - ahead of the Old Firm - then the festive fixtures could prove costly.
  • Rangers have beaten Motherwell 2-1 in both the Scottish Premiership and League Cup semi-finals this season, so they'll be hoping it's a case of third time lucky on Sunday afternoon too.
