Team News

Dundee United
St. Johnstone
  • Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin made two changes from the Terrors' 1-1 draw in Dingwall against Ross County in their last league game, before advancing into the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals with a 1-0 win against St Mirren.
  • Jack Walton continued in goal - behind a back three of Emmanuel Adegboyega, Declan Gallagher and matchwinner Ross Graham. Miller Thomson dropped out of midfield. Craig Sibbald and Kevin Holt started in the centre of the midfield four.
  • Will Ferry continued at left wing-back, with Luca Stephenson taking Vicko Ševelj's spot on the right as he missed out through injury. Macedonian duo David Babunski and Kristijan Trapanovski supported lone striker Jort van der Sande in attack.
  • St Johnstone boss Craig Levein made just one change from the Saints starting XI that beat Kilmarnock 3-0 at Rugby Park in the Scottish Premiership, before they were knocked out of the League Cup as they lost 2-0 to Rangers at Hampden.
  • Josh Rae continued in goal behind a back three of Lewis Neilson, Jack Sanders and Kyle Cameron. Andre Raymond and Drey Wright were chosen at left wing-back and right wing-back respectively.
  • Matt Smith, Cammy MacPherson and Graham Carey - who replaced the suspended Aaron Essel - started as the midfield trio at Hampden. Benji Kimpioka and Adama Sidibeh lead the line at the weekend against Rangers.

Prediction

  • Dundee United booked their place in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals at the weekend, while St Johnstone were knocked out at the last 16 stage.
  • United have drawn both their league games upon their return to the Scottish Premiership so far, at home to Dundee and away to Ross County respectively, so progress in the cup competition is a nice bonus. The Terrors are now a game away from a trip to the national stadium but, with their quarter-final to come, they'll want to enter the Motherwell match having picked up some points.
  • Saints claimed their first league win of the season last time out, thanks to an impressive 3-0 victory at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock. Another Scottish Premiership victory this weekend, over their Tayside rivals, could prove very beneficial as they look to build momentum. The aim is to avoid a basement battle, having finished in the bottom three spots twice in the past three seasons.
  • St Johnstone clinched an impressive Scottish Premiership victory the weekend before last, but United are yet to claim their first win back in the top tier so will hope that search comes to an end this weekend.
