Team News

Rangers
Motherwell
  • Rangers boss Philippe Clement made two changes from Saturday's stalemate at Tynecastle against Hearts in their Scottish Premiership opener, before a last gasp leveller saw the Gers leave Poland with a 1-1 draw against Dynamo Kyiv.
  • Leon Balogun replaced Ben Davies to partner John Souttar as the heart of the defence as they kicked off their Champions League qualifying campaign. Captain James Tavernier and Ridvan Yilmaz continued at right and left-back respectively.
  • Mohamed Diomande and Connor Barron started in front of the back four. Scott Wright and Tom Lawrence were joined by Ross McCausland - in for the injured Oscar Cortes - in support of lone striker Cyriel Dessers who equalised late on in midweek.
  • Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell named two summer signings in the starting eleven as the Steelmen also started their Scottish Premiership season with a goalless draw, being held at home by Ross County last Saturday afternoon.
  • Liam Gordon joined Dan Casey and Shane Blaney in the Well's back three which kept a clean sheet to kick off their league campaign. Stephen O'Donnell started at right wing-back, with teenage talent Ewan Wilson starting on the left hand side.
  • Davor Zdravkovski, Andy Halliday and Lennon Miller were chosen as the midfield trio to take on the Staggies. Summer signing Zach Robinson partnered Moses Ebiye in attack, with new signing Apostolos Stamatelopoulos coming off the bench.

Prediction

  • Both Rangers and Motherwell's Scottish Premiership seasons started with goalless draws, away to Hearts and at home to Ross County respectively, ahead of the two teams meeting at Hampden Park.
  • The Gers will be disappointed to leave Tynecastle with only a point to kick off the Scottish Premiership campaign, but the draw they recorded in Poland on Tuesday could prove beneficial. It's all to play for at Hampden Park, whilst Ibrox is undergoing redevelopment, and if Rangers can make their way into the Champions League then that could bring some serious financial gain for the club.
  • Motherwell will be frustrated that they couldn't make their home advantage count against Ross County, particularly given the Well have got some tough matches round the corner. Both the Steelmen and the Staggies are fancied to be fighting it out at the wrong end of the Scottish Premiership table, so a potential relegation rival coming to Fir Park and claiming a point isn't ideal.
  • Motherwell derailed the Gers' title challenge last season with a shock victory at Ibrox but, that match aside, Rangers' recent record against the Steelmen is strong and they should claim all three points this weekend.
