Team News

Celtic
Hearts
  • Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers made two changes as a dominant display saw them sweep St Mirren aside with a 3-0 victory in Paisley, before they clinched some derby day delight with a victory over Rangers by the same scoreline.
  • Kasper Schmeichel remained behind an unchanged back four of Alistair Johnston, who appeared to pick up an injury on international duty whilst with Canada, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Greg Taylor.
  • Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor were joined by Paulo Bernardo in midfield. The two alterations came in the attacking trio as Daizen Maeda was joined by Nicholas Kühn - in place of James Forrest - in support of Kyogo Furuhashi who took Adam Idah's spot up front.
  • Steven Naismith made four changes as the Jambos dropped into the Europa Conference League after losing 1-0 to Viktoria Plzen in Edinburgh and 2-0 on aggregate to the Czechs, before Dundee United snuck past them at Tynecastle.
  • Craig Halkett entered the Hearts defence, with Kye Rowles and Gerald Taylor making way as the Jambos shifted to a back four. Jorge Grant and Malachi Boateng were joined by Blair Spittal in midfield at Cammy Devlin's expense.
  • Yutaro Oda started on the right, with Kenneth Vargas keeping his place on the left. Star striker Lawrence Shankland returned against his former club, as Dundee United won 1-0 in Edinburgh before the break, with Liam Boyce dropping onto the bench.

Prediction

  • Two of last season's Scottish Premiership top three go head-to-head at Parkhead, with Celtic enjoying their start to the season but Hearts yet to get going this campaign.
  • Reigning champions Celtic moved five points clear of bitter rivals Rangers, thanks to a dominant derby day display as they netted three without reply and took the early advantage in this season's Scottish Premiership title race. Having now lost one of the last 13 Glasgow derbies, the Hoops opened the current campaign with four victories and clean sheets for the first time since 2010/11.
  • Hearts head west as one of four Scottish Premiership sides still looking for their first victory to kickstart their campaign. The Jambos are winless in their opening four league games for the first time since 2019/20 and the longer they leave it, the trickier it becomes. They put an end to a rotten record against Celtic in Glasgow last season, and would certainly love to repeat the feat here.
  • Despite the Jambos shocking Celtic twice last season, winning in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, both sides look different propositions this season so the Hoops could hammer Hearts here.
