Team News

Motherwell
Hibernian
  • Stuart Kettlewell named one enforced change to the Motherwell team that was held at home by St Mirren in a 1-1 draw at Fir Park, before an outstanding comeback in Dundee saw them win 3-2 at Dens Park after trailing 2-0.
  • Stephen O'Donnell limped off in the stalemate with Saints, so Shane Blaney took his spot to join Dan Casey and Paul McGinn - making his 500th career appearance - in the Well backline. Georgie Gent and Adam Devine continued as wing-backs.
  • Andy Halliday and Davor Zdravkovski remained in the Motherwell midfield, with Blair Spittal slightly further forward. Jack Vale partnered Theo Bair in attack. Moses Ebiye netted a dramatic late winner for the Steelmen last Saturday, so may come into the starting eleven this weekend.
  • Hibs boss Nick Montgomery named just one change to the Hibernian team that lost 3-1 to Rangers at Ibrox, before a 2-1 loss to St Johnstone at Easter Road meant it's now back-to-back Scottish Premiership defeats for the Hibees.
  • David Marshall remained behind Chris Cadden, Will Fish, Rocky Bushiri and Jordan Obita in the Hibees' unchanged back four. Joe Newell and Nectarios Triantis continued in midfield. Josh Campbell was back on the bench after injury.
  • Myziane Maolida and the returning Martin Boyle, who took Élie Youan's place, provided the width from the right and left flank respectively. Emiliano Marcondes supported lone striker Adam Le Fondre once more at the weekend.

Prediction

  • Remarkably, both Motherwell and Hibernian could yet sneak into the Scottish Premiership top six with a win in the final fixture before the league split.
  • Motherwell's trip to Dundee was dramatic, both on and off the park, after concerns regarding the game going ahead were succeded by a crucial comeback which could yet see the Well sneak into the top half of the Scottish Premiership table. Win against fellow top six hopefuls Hibs, coupled with Dundee failing to beat Aberdeen at Pittodrie, and the Steelmen somehow salvage their season.
  • Back-to-back Scottish Premiership defeats may mean that Hibs aren't quite as hopeful as they once were surrounding the possibility of a top-six finish. Had the Hibees beaten St Johnstone at Easter Road, after Dundee's self-destruction versus Motherwell, and destiny would be in Hibernian's hands. They face a similar scenario to Motherwell, where a win may not be enough for top six.
  • Both teams will keep an eye on proceedings at Pittodrie but, taking into account last weekend's results for either side, Motherwell may have that bit more confidence than Hibs heading into this pivotal match.
