Team News

Aberdeen
St. Johnstone
  • Interim Aberdeen boss Neil Warnock made one change from the Dons' draw as they were held at home by Hibernian in a 2-2 stalemate the weekend before last, before they lost 2-0 to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon.
  • Richard Jensen entered the Dons defence after illness, as they resorted to a back four. He joined Nicky Devlin at right-back, Stefan Gartenmann in the centre and Jack MacKenzie at left-back.
  • Graeme Shinnie and Connor Barron continued in midfield but were joined by Dante Polvara as opposed to Leighton Clarkson. Jamie McGrath supported Bojan Miovski and Duk in the Aberdeen attack.
  • St Johnstone boss Craig Levein named three changes to the Saints side that lost 3-0 to Rangers at McDiarmid Park the weekend before last, before a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren in Paisley at the weekend.
  • Ryan McGowan dropped out of the Saints' back three, as Kerr Smith joined club captain Liam Gordon and Andy Considine. Luke Robinson continued at left wing-back but Tony Gallacher replaced David Keltjens at right wing-back.
  • Dan Phillips sat in midfield, with Matt Smith and Graham Carey looking to get further forward in support of two strikers. Adama Sidibeh kept his place but was joined by Nicky Clark - coming in for Connor Smith - who made his second Saints start in three months.

Prediction

  • Eighth meets tenth with three points separating Aberdeen and St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership table, prior to their midweek meeting at Pittodrie.
  • Aberdeen have now lost three consecutive away league matches for the first time this season, as Kilmarnock joined Rangers and Hearts in the teams to have beaten the travelling Dons recently. Having now recorded three defeats to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on the spin, Aberdeen are in danger of throwing away the chance to finish in the top six unless they get back to winning ways.
  • St Johnstone are another side beginning to feel the heat after their loss in Paisley, coupled with Ross County beating Livingston, meant that they only sit two points ahead of the Staggies who occupy the relegation playoff place. Saints' only league victory away from home came at the start of the month, to relegation rivals Ross County, and they're in desperate need of a second here.
  • It would be a disgrace given Aberdeen's squad and budget if they missed out on the top six. After two draws against St Johnstone in the league this season, they'll hope it's a case of third time lucky to begin looking upwards.
