Team News

St. Johnstone
St. Mirren
  • St Johnstone boss Craig Levein made three changes from the Saints team that fell to defeat against Hearts at Tynecastle by a 1-0 scoreline before Celtic swept them aside 3-1 at McDiarmid Park at the weekend.
  • James Brown took Andy Considine's place in defence, as Saints switched to a back four. Graham Carey entered the five-man midfield, with both Stevie May and Chris Kane sitting amongst the substitutes on Sunday.
  • In attack, Diallang Jaiyesimi - on loan from Charlton Athletic - gave Celtic a scare when he took the opportunity of a rare start and fired Saints in front at the weekend.
  • Stephen Robinson named four changes to the St Mirren side that lost their midweek match to Ross County in Dingwall by a late goal in a 1-0 defeat, before they were brushed aside by Rangers 2-0 at Ibrox on Sunday.
  • Richard Taylor replaced Charles Dunne, to rejoin Alex Gogic and Marcus Fraser in the Buddies' back three. Ryan Flynn started at right wing-back, with Keanu Baccus dropping to the bench as Caolan Boyd-Munce took his place in midfield.
  • Alex Greive and Mikael Mandron made way for Jonah Ayunga to start as Saints' sole striker in Govan. He was supported by Greg Kiltie and Conor McMenamin as the shape was slightly altered.

Prediction

  • St Johnstone and St Mirren are hoping to put weekend defeats to the top two on Sunday afternoon firmly behind them, as they meet at McDiarmid Park in midweek.
  • The Perth Saints have suffered back-to-back defeats, albeit to two of the current top three, after being unbeaten in three Scottish Premiership matches prior - where they picked up seven of their 11 points in the current campaign. There's no shame in losing to Hearts or Celtic, but they've got another tough test here as they hope to pull three points clear of a Livingston team that aren't in action.
  • The Paisley Saints have slipped to fourth place in the Scottish Premiership table, following one win in their last six league games. The Buddies have won just two league games on the road so far this season, but battered St Johnstone 4-0 in Paisley in the reverse fixture which ultimately lead to Saints pulling the plug on Steven MacLean. They're taking on a much different team from back then.
  • With neither team in the best of fettle, due to recent matches, a share of the spoils between St Johnstone and St Mirren seems likely in a game that could go either way.
