Team News

Preston
Sunderland
  • Ryan Lowe could make one change to the side that faced Bristol City on opening weekend with attacking midfielder Duane Holmes coming in for a start off the back of a solid full debut in midweek.
  • Right-back Calvin Ramsay has arrived with plenty of intrigue, but the Liverpool loanee is yet to feature as he manages a minor injury.
  • Tony Mowbray will be without right-back Trai Hume this weekend after he was sent off in the defeat to Ipswich, so expect Lynden Gooch to step in this weekend.
  • Aji Alese and Ross Stewart are among six injuries for the away side to contend with.

Prediction

  • Preston left it late to produce a response after falling behind against Bristol City on the opening weekend of the season, scoring through Will Keane with fewer than five minutes left on the clock to rescue a point. A midweek Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Salford will do little to boost the mood at Deepdale though, with supports still frustrated at a lack of encouraging transfer business.
  • Sunderland's frustrating start to the season took another turn for the worse on Tuesday night as they followed up a 2-1 home defeat to Championship new boys Ipswich with a penalty shoot-out defeat to League Two side Crewe in the Carabao Cup. The Black Cats are still targeting a top-six finish this season and will be desperate to get their account up and running for the season here.
