Team News

Tottenham
Southampton
  • Big money summer arrival Richarlison is suspended for the opening game of the season, while Oliver Skipp will be assessed owing to a foot injury that saw him miss Tottenham's last pre-season friendly of the summer.
  • In better news, though, Ben Davies has recovered from injury, but it's been reported than Clement Lenglet has trained with a view to starting.
  • Ryan Sessegnon may get the nod ahead of Ivan Perisic on the left against Southampton, with Antonio Conte hinting the latter is not yet fully fit.
  • Yves Bissouma sustained a knock in training and is set to miss Saturday's game.
  • After Armando Broja's loan spell ended, Che Adams is expected to lead the charge for Southampton this season, with Joe Aribo potentially starting behind the frontman.
  • Valentino Livramento is ruled out for the rest of the year, so former Spurs man Kyle Walker-Peters is set to start at right-back.
  • Nathan Tella and Theo Walcott join Livramento on the sidelines.

Prediction

  • There is a growing sense of excitement at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Spurs approach their first full season with Antonio Conte at the helm. A strong end to 2021/22 saw them earn Champions League football and they'll be keen to kick off the campaign with victory.
  • Saints did secure victory at Tottenham last season, though endured a dire end to the campaign, winning only one of their last 12 league matches and losing their final four games. Prior to their 3-2 win at Spurs, Saints had lost their last six trips to the north London side.
  • Spurs will be eager to exact revenge upon Saints for defeat last season and have the quality in strength to kick off the campaign with all three points.

  • Solid win for Tottenham and three points they didn't get last season.

  • Kulu is insane

  • @richccfc he's picked up where he left off last season. It's great! :)

  • 1-1 Walcott MotM

  • Tottenham lost this fixture last season but have shown a lot more cohesion and resilience since then. Tottenham and Southampton haven't shared a 0-0 since 2001 so perhaps one is overdue or it could be one of those first day goal fests. Walker-Peters and Ward-Prowse to score for Southampton and Harry Kane to score at least one for Tottenham. Tottenham 3-2 Southampton

  • Under 3.5 goals @1.53

  • As a spurs fan I'm always afraid of our defending at set pieces. Beware of JWP

  • Spurs 3-1.
