Team News

Hoffenheim
Borussia Dortmund
  • Håvard Nordtveit could get another chance in the back-three, if Benjamin Hübner does not recover from muscular problems in time.
  • Pavel Kaderábek returns from a one-match ban to start on the right flank.
  • Robert Zulj could get a chance in central midfield, with Kerem Demirbay and Lukas Rupp both injured.
  • Lukasz Piszczek or Julian Weigl might have to help out at centre-back, with Sokratis suspended and Ömer Toprak unlikely to recover from a muscle injury in time.
  • Manuel Akanji is expected to help out in the second centre-back spot, with Marcel Schmelzer and Jeremy Toljan possibly filling in on the flanks.
  • Manager Peter Stöger could also switch to a back-three and give U23 centre-back Patrick Mainka a chance from the off.

Prediction

  • Hoffenheim have to recover from a disappointing 2-0 defeat at local rivals Stuttgart last Saturday, but boast the Bundesliga's second-best home record. They have the chance to qualify for the Champions League after an impressive season, but Leverkusen sit behind them on goal difference, while Leipzig in sixth can still overtake them as well.
  • Dortmund are in a better position to defend their top-4 spot, as they sit three points and three goals ahead of Hoffenheim and three points and six goals ahead of Leverkusen. They cannot afford to lose by more than one goal without being dependant on the result in Leverkusen, though, while their absent centre-backs could cost them stability here.
  • Expect this direct battle for a Champions League spot to be an intense game with several chances at both ends of the pitch.
