Gameweek 28 in the Premier League produced very little in the way of surprises with the top 4 all registering wins and conceding only one goal between them. There were some standout performances over the weekend, with WhoScored.com's statistically based Premier League Team of the Week summing them up nicely.

It has been a poor season for Pepe Reina and some are even going as far as questioning whether the Spaniard will be playing at the top level for much longer. Only Wigan's mistake prone Ali Al-Habsi (8) has made more errors leading to a goal in the Premier League this season than Reina (4), but when the two met on Saturday Reina looked to be back to his best to silence the critics. On his way to a first clean sheet since December, the Liverpool stopper made 6 saves, 5 of which were from shots from inside the box, including a great diving save to deny Emmerson Boyce.

Seamus Coleman has struggled with injury for much of the season, but showed no signs of a lacking match sharpness in Everton's win over Reading. Michael Carrick (128) was the only player to have more touches of the ball in a Premier League game this week than Coleman (96), who pitched in with 3 key passes and an assist from one of those. The Irishman also helped out defensively with 4 tackles, 7 interceptions and 6 clearances on his way to achieving a WhoScored rating of 8.7. On the opposite side Ian Harte was doing his bit for Reading, with 2 crucial goal-line clearances and the cross from which Reading grabbed their consolatory goal. At the heart of the back four, Ashley Williams and David Luiz marshalled their respective defences to 1-0 wins, with Williams making a monstrous 23 clearances against Newcastle - more than any other player this weekend - while Luiz's main contribution was the assist he provided for Demba Ba's winning goal.

Morgan Schneiderlin has been one of the most effective ball-winning midfielders in the Premier League this season, and his style of play has suited the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino at St Mary's. The new manager promotes a high-pressing game and Schneiderlin has implemented the tactic superbly, winning possession more times than any other player in the top flight this weekend, with 12 interceptions and 9 tackles. His central midfield partner is Marouane Fellaini, who, having gone 6 games without a goal, now has 3 in his last 4 appearances. He notched one against Reading and added an assist to that, as well as winning 11 aerial duels on his way to a WhoScored rating of 9.0.

Everton were convincing in beating Reading and there is another of their players in the best eleven, with Kevin Mirallas a constant threat from the right for the Toffees. The Belgian had 6 shots, scoring once, and made 3 key passes to terrorise the Reading defence. On the other wing is one of the performers of the weekend, with Shinji Kagawa scoring a devastating hat-trick in the win over Norwich. As well as scoring 3 goals from 3 shots, Kagawa completed the second most passes of all Premier League players this weekend (67), behind only teammate Carrick (112).

There is little questioning who were the best forwards this weekend, with Wayne Rooney scoring a wondergoal to round off the rout of Norwich, as well as assisting two of Kagawa's strikes. The England striker completed 81% of his passes, also completing 3 successful scribbles in a near seamless performance. Luis Suarez went one better though, registering the only perfect 10 WhoScored rating this weekend with a hat-trick at Wigan. He is now leading the goalscoring charts and has found his scoring touch in recent weeks. It is usually the case that Suarez has a huge number of shots only in managing to score, but this week he notched his 3 goals from just 4 attempts, and his rich vein of form may spell the end of any race that is still ongoing between him and van Persie for the golden boot.
