Leicester boss Rodgers hints at club-record deal for Tielemans
Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed he is prepared to smash the club’s transfer record to land Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans.
The Foxes signed Tielemans on six-month loan deal in January after the Belgium international was told he could leave Monaco by returning manager Leonardo Jardim.
Leicester do not have an option to sign Tielemans permanently but he has made a great impression at the club and they are working on securing his long-term signature.
Tielemans, who has previously been linked with Tottenham, won’t come cheap and Rodgers has confirmed he is willing to eclipse the £30m club-record fee Leicester paid for Islam Slimani in 2016.
“The money is going up, absolutely. We shall see,” The Daily Mirror quote Rodgers as saying when asked about Leicester’s chances of breaking their transfer record this summer.
“As you know, the numbers go up each year. You pay for quality. The notion has been to bring in a talent and develop them. There is a lot of work going on and a weekly meeting in terms of recruitment.
“There is a daily dialogue in terms of players. It is never easy when you are trying to bring in players to improve the squad. It is always complex but there is a lot of great work by the guys going on behind the scenes.”
Tielemans has impressively scored or assisted in six of his 10 Premier League appearances for Leicester and has a WhoScored rating of 7.13 in that time.
