Chelsea consider high profile Haaland alternative

Chelsea are pondering a £50m move for Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski as an alternative for top target Erling Haaland, reports the Sun on Sunday.

Haaland is a man in demand at Stamford Bridge as the Blues look to bring in a new striker this summer to ease their goalscoring woes.

Central midfielder Jorginho finished the season as their top scorer in the Premier League having netted seven times, while big money 2020 captures Timo Werner and Kai Havertz scored just 10 league goals between them last term.

However, Borussia Dortmund have reportedly set a €180m asking price for Haaland, which could price the Champions League winners out of a move for the Norwegian.

As such, Chelsea are believed to be pursuing other targets, with Lewandowski being considered in west London.

The 32-year-old scored at least 13 more goals (41) than any other player in the Bundesliga last season, setting the record for the highest-scoring Bundesliga season in history.

Lewandowski's current deal at the Allianz Arena runs until 2023 and Bayern are keen to tie him down to a new deal, but Chelsea are prepared to spend big on the Poland international as they seek to secure a big name striker to lead the line in 2021/22.
