Tottenham star leads the way in top performing Yahoo! XI

Manchester City blew their chance to win the Premier League title at home against their rivals on Saturday as they threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Manchester United. Victory would’ve seen City make history as the earliest title winners in since the Premier League’s 1992 inception, but they’ll now have to wait until later this month to be crowned champions.

That isn’t to say none of their players impressed in the eventual defeat at the Etihad Stadium, with the league leaders boasting two representatives in the Yahoo! Fantasy Football top performing XI from gameweek 33. This side would’ve gained you 212.45 points over the weekend and with a salary of £173, it was certainly affordable.

GOALKEEPER – JORDAN PICKFORD

Saturday’s Merseyside Derby was a damp squib as Everton were held to a 0-0 draw by Liverpool at a rain-soaked Goodison Park. Gareth Southgate will have been impressed with Jordan Pickford’s performance, however, with the England international making four saves to help himself to a clean sheet and 14.00 Yahoo! Fantasy Football points.

DEFENDER – CESAR AZPILICUETA

Cesar Azpilicueta notched his second Premier League goal of the season on Sunday as Chelsea drew 1-1 with West Ham at Stamford Bridge. While his teammates underwhelmed, the Spaniard made two tackles, one interception and two key passes to help return 14.45 points with Yahoo! Fantasy Football.

DEFENDER – VINCENT KOMPANY

Vincent Kompany headed Manchester City ahead in their eventual 3-2 loss to Manchester United and did enough to gain 13.65 Yahoo! Fantasy Football points. Four aerial duels won and two interceptions made, not to mention a 88.6% pass success rate, meant the centre-back could walk off the Etihad Stadium with his head held high.

DEFENDER – CHRIS SMALLING

Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling has made a habit of netting when his side have been 2-0 down and gone on to win 3-2 and Saturday proved no different as he scored the winning goal against City. Four interceptions and one clearance to go with his goal saw him earn 15.90 Yahoo! Fantasy Football points in gameweek 33.

MIDFIELDER – CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN

Tottenham battled to a hard fought 2-1 win over Stoke on Saturday, with Christian Eriksen bagging a brace in the victory. Indeed, the Dane earned more Yahoo! Fantasy Football points (28.05) than any other player in gameweek 33, with his six shots, two key passes, one dribble and two tackles contributing to that return.

MIDFIELDER – ILKAY GUNDOGAN

Ilkay Gundogan bagged Manchester City’s second on Saturday and many felt his goal was the one that would guarantee City the title before their second half collapse. The German was an impressive performer regardless, mustering six shots, one dribble, one tackle and a 97.4% pass success rate to return 16.85 Yahoo! Fantasy Football points.

MIDFIELDER – PAUL POGBA

Overshadowing Gundogan’s performance, though, was Paul Pogba, who despite a disappointing first half, excelled after the break to gain the WhoScored.com man of the match award. Two goals, four dribbles and two interceptions saw Pogba earn 24.70 Yahoo! Fantasy Football points as the Manchester United star delayed City’s title celebrations.

MIDFIELDER – ROBERTO PEREYRA

His goal may not have been enough for Watford to avoid defeat to Burnley at the weekend, but Roberto Pereyra was a key man for the Hornets against the Clarets. Indeed, the Argentine gained 20.20 Yahoo! Fantasy Football points in gameweek 33, in part owing to his goal, six shots, two key passes and three dribbles.

UTILITY – DANNY WELBECK

Danny Welbeck’s Yahoo! Fantasy Football points total (27.85) was bettered only by Eriksen in gameweek 33. The Arsenal star scored two and assisted one to help return that notable figure, while an additional one key pass and one tackle helped him gain the WhoScored.com man of the match award in the Gunners’ 3-2 win over Southampton.

FORWARD – WILFRIED ZAHA

Rounding off the top performing XI is Crystal Palace ace Wilfried Zaha, with the Ivory Coast international bagging a crucial goal in a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth over the weekend.
